Why More Wakefield Homeowners Are Choosing Artificial Grass
Artificial grass has changed significantly in the last decade. Today's premium products are realistic, soft underfoot, and built to last. Here's why homeowners across Wakefield, Leeds, and Bradford are making the switch:
- No mowing, ever. The most obvious benefit. Once it's down, it stays the same height. No Saturday mornings fighting a petrol mower, no fuel, no blades to sharpen.
- Stays green year-round. A real lawn turns yellow in dry spells and gets churned up in wet winters. Artificial grass looks the same in January as it does in July — green, even, and tidy.
- Safe for pets and children. Modern artificial grass is manufactured to be non-toxic, soft enough for children to play on, and robust enough to handle dogs. Many of our installations are specifically chosen for families with active children or dogs that spend a lot of time outside.
- Genuinely low maintenance. The occasional brush to keep fibres upright, a rinse if you have pets — that's about it. There's no watering, no feeding, no weeding between grass blades. The time and money you save over a real lawn is significant.
- Long-term cost savings. Factor in lawn care over a decade — mower servicing, fuel, lawn treatments, turf repair, hosepipe use — and artificial grass pays for itself. It's an upfront investment with a long runway of zero ongoing costs.
Artificial Grass for Every Garden
Artificial grass isn't a one-size-fits-all product, and it doesn't suit just one type of garden. We install it in a wide range of settings:
- Children's play areas. Artificial grass creates a safe, soft, cushioned surface for children to play on. It's easy to clean, free of the mess that real grass creates, and stays consistent underfoot regardless of weather. Combined with rubber crumb infill, it can provide additional impact absorption for play areas.
- Dog-friendly lawns. Dogs and real grass don't always co-exist well — worn paths, dug areas, and patches of bare mud are a constant battle. Artificial grass handles heavy pet traffic well. It's perforated to allow liquid to drain through, and solid waste is simply removed and the area rinsed clean.
- Front gardens. A well-installed artificial lawn on a front garden makes a strong first impression. It's neat, uniform, and requires nothing from you week to week. Kerb appeal without the upkeep.
- Back garden makeovers. Many customers combine artificial grass with new patio slabs, raised beds, or composite decking to create a completely transformed outdoor space. Artificial grass works well alongside hard landscaping — it defines zones and adds softness without the maintenance demand. We also offer full garden design services if you're planning a complete makeover.
- Awkward or shaded areas. Real grass struggles in shade, on slopes, or in areas with poor soil. Artificial grass doesn't need sunlight, soil quality, or irrigation. If you have a corner of the garden where nothing grows well, this is often the right solution.
Our Artificial Grass Range
We supply and install premium artificial grass products across a range of specifications. All of the products we use are selected for durability, drainage performance, and visual realism.
Pile heights range from around 20mm for a close-cut lawn appearance, up to 40mm for a lusher, meadow-style finish. The right pile height depends on the use — shorter piles are more resilient under heavy traffic; longer piles tend to look more natural but require more maintenance to keep upright.
Density and stitch rate affect how full and realistic the grass looks, and how well it handles foot traffic and pet use. Our higher-grade products use a higher stitch count for a dense, premium finish that doesn't flatten easily.
Colour and realism. Today's artificial grass includes multiple blade colours — typically a blend of two or three greens, often with brown thatch fibres woven through the base layer. This is what gives premium artificial grass its natural look. Cheap products use a single flat colour that reads instantly as fake. Everything we install is selected to look genuinely realistic from normal viewing distance.

Professional Artificial Grass Installation — What to Expect
A proper installation is what makes the difference between artificial grass that looks and performs well for 15+ years, and a surface that creases, drains poorly, or comes loose at the edges within a season.
Step 1 — Free Home Survey
We visit the site, measure the area, assess the ground conditions, and discuss your brief — intended use, pile height preference, edge treatment. You receive a written quote with no obligation.
Step 2 — Ground Preparation
Existing lawn, soil, or surface material is stripped back. The area is excavated to the required depth and levelled. Any significant undulations are corrected at this stage. Getting the ground level right is essential — any unevenness in the base will show through in the finished surface.
Step 3 — Sub-Base and Weed Membrane
We lay a compacted sub-base of crushed aggregate to create a stable, well-draining foundation. A weed-suppressing membrane is installed on top to prevent any organic growth from below disrupting the surface over time.
Step 4 — Artificial Grass Laying
The turf is cut accurately to the shape of the area and laid onto the prepared base. Where seams are required on larger areas, they are joined carefully and positioned to run in the natural direction of the pile to be as invisible as possible.
Step 5 — Infill and Edging
A kiln-dried sand infill is brushed into the grass fibres. This adds weight to keep the turf flat, supports the blades in an upright position, and improves drainage performance. Edges are secured and finished neatly with timber baton, aluminium edging, or integrated into adjacent hard landscaping.
Artificial Grass Care and Maintenance
One of the main reasons people choose artificial grass is to reduce maintenance — so the care requirements are deliberately minimal. If you'd prefer a natural lawn, we also offer professional turf installation.
- Brush occasionally. Use a stiff-bristled brush or a specialist lawn rake to brush the fibres against the grain every few weeks. This keeps the blades upright and prevents the surface from matting down in high-traffic areas. It takes five minutes.
- Rinse for pets. If you have dogs, hose down the lawn regularly to wash away urine and keep the surface fresh. The perforated backing and aggregate base are designed to drain quickly, so there's no standing water or odour issue if you stay on top of it.
- Remove debris. Leaves, twigs, and other garden debris can be removed with a leaf blower or a stiff brush. Avoid using metal rakes, which can pull at the fibres.
- No chemicals needed. You don't need weedkillers, lawn treatments, fertilisers, or pesticides. The weed membrane below handles any potential growth from underneath, and because there's no organic material in the surface itself, weeds have nothing to take hold in.
That's genuinely it. No watering, no mowing, no seasonal treatment programme.
