Patio Materials We Install
Choosing the right material is the single most important decision you'll make for your patio. Different materials suit different gardens, budgets, and lifestyles. Here's what we work with:
Indian Sandstone
Indian sandstone is one of the most popular choices in West Yorkshire — and for good reason. Its warm, earthy tones range from buff and honey to silver-grey and riven, giving every patio a unique, natural character that manufactured products simply can't replicate. Sandstone weathers beautifully over time, ages with dignity, and pairs well with planting, walls, and timber features.
Porcelain Paving
Porcelain has become the premium choice for homeowners who want a clean, contemporary finish with minimal upkeep. Unlike natural stone, porcelain is non-porous, which means it doesn't stain easily, won't harbour moss and algae as readily, and is fully frost resistant. Available in large formats with tight, consistent joints, porcelain creates a high-end aesthetic.
Natural Stone
For those who want something with real weight and character, natural stone options like slate, limestone, and granite offer extraordinary texture and longevity. Slate brings drama, limestone is softer in tone and elegant, while granite is virtually indestructible and perfectly suited to high-traffic areas or large terraces.
Concrete Slabs
A well-specified concrete slab can deliver a clean, contemporary look at a lower material cost. Modern concrete paving has improved significantly in quality and variety — the days of basic grey slabs are long gone. Concrete can be an excellent practical choice when installed correctly on the right sub-base.
Looking to add decking alongside your new patio? We also install premium composite decking.
Transform Your Outdoor Space
A patio isn't just a surface. Done properly, it becomes one of the most-used parts of your property.
Extend your living space
A well-designed patio blurs the line between inside and outside. Paired with the right furniture, lighting, and planting, it becomes a genuine room.
Dedicated entertaining area
Hosting in the garden is a different experience when you have a level, well-drained surface underfoot. Perfect for barbecues and garden parties.
Add measurable value
A professionally installed patio with quality materials adds kerb appeal and real value to your property, making it more attractive to buyers.
Safer for children & pets
Uneven lawns, shifting paving, and puddles create hazards. A properly installed patio provides a safe, stable, level surface for the whole family.
Low ongoing maintenance
Quality materials, properly installed, need very little upkeep. An annual clean and occasional re-point is typically all that's required.

Our Patio Installation Process
Every patio we install follows the same proven five-step process. There are no shortcuts, because the quality of what's below ground determines how long the surface above it lasts.
Free Home Survey
We visit your property, assess the space, take accurate measurements, and discuss your preferences for materials, layout, levels, and budget. We give you a clear, detailed quote before any work begins.
Excavation & Ground Preparation
We excavate to the correct depth for the material and sub-base specification. Poor ground preparation is the number one cause of patio failure. We do this properly, every time.
Sub-Base Installation
A compacted MOT Type 1 sub-base is laid and mechanically compacted. For porcelain, we use a full mortar bed rather than spot-bedding to prevent hollow spots and cracking.
Paving Installation
Slabs are laid to the specified pattern, ensuring consistent joint widths, correct falls for drainage, and precise alignment throughout. We take our time at this stage.
Pointing & Finishing
Joints are filled using the correct pointing compound. Edges are finished cleanly. The site is cleared, left tidy, and we walk you through the completed work before we sign off.

Patio Design & Planning
Plenty of companies will lay paving. Fewer will design a patio worth laying. At Pulse Landscaping, we treat design as part of the service. We advise on:
- Orientation & shape — where the sun hits and how the garden flows.
- Material combinations — e.g., sandstone with a contrasting granite border.
- Steps & raised areas — where level changes create visual interest.
- Lighting integration — installing conduit during the build.
