Garden Fencing Installation in Wakefield & West Yorkshire

When it comes to fencing contractors in Wakefield, Pulse Landscaping and Driveways brings 15 years of installation experience to every project. Whether you need new boundary fencing fitted from scratch, ageing panels replaced, or a fresh fence line to define your garden, we deliver a clean, secure, and long-lasting result. We work across Wakefield, Leeds, Bradford, Huddersfield, Barnsley, and the wider West Yorkshire area — and every job we take on is backed by our 10-year workmanship warranty.

Fencing is one of those jobs that's easy to get wrong. Posts set too shallow. Concrete mixed poorly. Panels dropped in and left to wobble. We've seen the results of rushed fencing installs for years — and we fix them. When Pulse fits your fencing, it's done properly: correct post depth, properly mixed concrete, and a tidy finish that makes a real difference to how your garden looks and how long the fence lasts.

    Garden Fencing Styles We Install

Every garden is different, which is why we offer a range of fencing styles to suit your property, your budget, and how you want your outdoor space to feel. Here's what we install:

    Close Board / Featheredge Fencing

The most popular choice for residential gardens in West Yorkshire — and for good reason. Close board fencing is built from overlapping featheredge boards nailed directly to arris rails, giving you a solid, robust boundary that offers excellent privacy and stands up well to wind. It looks clean, weathers well, and with proper installation it'll comfortably outlast panel fencing.

    Panel Fencing

Panel fencing — whether lap panel or tongue-and-groove — is the most popular budget choice for boundary fencing and suits most properties. Pre-manufactured panels are fitted between posts for a neat, uniform look. It's a solid choice where budget is a priority or where you want a straightforward replacement to match what's already there.

    Post and Rail Fencing

A traditional open-style fence using timber posts and horizontal rails. Post and rail is common for front garden boundaries, paddocks, or as a structure to train climbing plants. It won't give you privacy, but it defines a clear boundary and suits countryside and semi-rural properties particularly well.

    Picket Fencing

Classic, tidy, and a great fit for front gardens. Picket fencing adds character to a property without blocking light or closing off the front of the house. We can fit timber picket fencing in a range of heights and styles to match the look you're after.

    Slatted / Contemporary Fencing

For gardens where the design is the point, slatted horizontal fencing creates a modern, architectural feel. Wider horizontal slats with deliberate gaps give a contemporary finish that suits newer builds and landscaped rear gardens. This style works especially well when combined with composite decking or a garden design project.

    Fence Post Installation & Foundations

The fence posts are what everything else hangs off — and they're where most DIY fencing jobs and cheap installations fall short. A post that isn't deep enough, or isn't set in concrete properly, will move. Once a post moves, the panels or boards attached to it fail. The whole fence loses its integrity.

At Pulse, we set posts to the correct depth for the panel height — as a rule, at least one third of the total post length should be below ground, often deeper in exposed or windy locations. Every post is concreted in using the right mix and given adequate time to set before panels or boards are attached.

We also assess the ground conditions before we start. Rocky ground, tree roots, and waterlogged soil all affect how posts need to be installed. We adapt accordingly rather than forcing a standard approach onto conditions that don't suit it. It's one of the things 15 years of on-the-ground experience teaches you — and it's a big part of why our fencing lasts.

For close board fencing, we use concrete gravel boards at the base as standard. These sit between the posts at ground level and prevent the timber boards from sitting in wet soil, extending the life of the fence significantly.

    Fencing & Gates

A fence is only as functional as its access points — so we supply and install matching gates as part of every fencing project where they're needed.

    Pedestrian Gates

We fit single timber pedestrian gates to match your fencing style. Whether it's a close board gate for a rear garden, a picket gate for the front, or a slatted contemporary gate to sit flush with a modern fence line, we make sure it hangs correctly, latches cleanly, and doesn't drop or catch over time. A gate fitted as an afterthought by someone else is one of the most common call-backs in fencing — we get it right first time.

    Driveway Gates

For larger openings, we can install double driveway gates to give your property a complete, finished look. These are typically fitted on heavier-duty posts, set deeper into the ground to handle the additional load and leverage. If you're planning a new driveway alongside your fencing, we can coordinate both as a single project — ask us about our block paving driveways and tarmac driveways services.

    Our Fencing Installation Process

    1

    Free Home Survey

We come to your property, take a proper look at the site, discuss your style preferences, and give you a clear, no-obligation quote. No call centres. You speak directly to us.

    2

    Removal of Existing Fencing

If there's old fencing to come out, we remove it cleanly and responsibly. Old posts, broken panels, and rubble are cleared from site — we don't leave you with a pile of old timber stacked in the corner.

    3

    Post Setting

New posts are positioned, set to the correct depth, and concreted in. We allow the concrete to cure properly before moving on — rushing this stage is how you end up with wobbly fencing six months later.

    4

    Panel or Board Fitting

Once the posts are set solid, we fit the panels, featheredge boards, or rails depending on your chosen style. Everything is checked for level, aligned correctly, and fixed securely.

    5

    Finishing

Gravel boards, post caps, and any additional treatment are applied. The site is left clean and tidy. We walk you through the work before we leave so you can see exactly what's been done.

Every job we complete is covered by our 10-year workmanship warranty. If anything we've installed fails due to our workmanship within that period, we come back and fix it. No quibble.
